The Day I Found Out I Was Pregnant

I wasn’t late. Not even by a day. But something in my gut told me something was different. It was just a regular day. I was home alone, cleaning the house, music on in the background, nothing out of the ordinary. But that feeling kept nagging at me, the kind you can’t really explain but you know it’s real.

So, I paused what I was doing and, without overthinking it, I DoorDashed a pregnancy test. Honestly, I felt a little silly. Who orders a pregnancy test when their period isn’t even due yet? But something in me just knew. I couldn’t ignore it.

When the test arrived, I took it right away. I waited… staring, heart pounding and then, there it was. A faint line. Barely there. But it was there. I froze. Shock, disbelief, and this bubbling excitement all washed over me at once. I had to be sure. So, of course, I took another test.

Same result.

I stood there holding it in my hand, trying to make sense of everything, feeling like the world had just shifted a little on its axis. I was pregnant. I was actually pregnant. I started crying. Then laughing. Then crying again (happy tears). I had to tell someone and the only person I could think to tell in that moment was my sister, so I FaceTimed her immediately. I needed someone to freak out with me—and she was the perfect person for that.

As much as I wanted to tell my fiancé, Spencer, I held back. He was at work, and I had to tell him in person. I knew he’d be over the moon, and I wanted it to be special.

So I waited. (If you know me, you know how hard that was.)

When he finally got home, I had everything ready. I left all six (yes, six… I had to be sure) positive pregnancy tests on the bathroom counter. I wrote a note on the big whiteboard calendar outside our bedroom: “Call to schedule first prenatal appointment.” And my personal favorite? I put on a sweater that said, “Always read the fine print…I’m pregnant.” Subtle, right?

Except… he noticed none of it.

I tried standing in strategic ways so he’d read my shirt. Nothing. I followed him around the house, waiting for him to walk into the bathroom. He stopped right before the door, turned around, and kept talking. Then walked past the whiteboard, looked directly at it… still talking… still didn’t register what it said.

At this point, I was losing my mind.

Finally, we sat down on the couch. I casually asked him if he was hungry. He said, “A little,” and I replied, “I’m starving. I’ve been sooo hungry all week and I don’t know why… well actually I do but…”

He started to say something, then stopped, looked at me, and said, “Wait…why?”

I couldn’t help it, I smiled so big.

“Are you?” he asked, slowly, his voice already rising with excitement.

I nodded with a little giggle, tears brimming. And in that instant, he jumped up, pulled me into the biggest hug, kissed me, laughed, and kissed me again. He was overjoyed. Absolutely lit up. His whole face changed with excitement and love and disbelief.

When I pointed out the clues I had left everywhere, and we both cracked up at how he missed all of them.

It was such a special moment. One I will never forget. The joy on his face, the way he held me, the laughter we shared. It was the beginning of everything. The day we knew our lives were about to change forever.

And honestly? I wouldn’t change a single detail.
